Jodie Cooper
Art Psychotherapist
ABOUT ME
I’m Jodie, a HCPC registered Jungian person-centred Art psychotherapist.
I have dedicated over 20 years to working with adults, young people and children using the medium of art for healing and improving mental and emotional health working in different services, schools and in private practice. I have been a qualified (and busy) art psychotherapist for over 10 years.
In addition to seeing clients I am a supervisor for a range of creative arts therapists, am coordinator of the London British Association of Art therapists, Director of the Arts and Play Therapies Conference, and Lecturer on an Art Psychotherapy Masters.
My therapeutic approach focus's on self discovery; enhancing mental health and well being so you (or your child) can lead better lives. I work across the board with adults and children, whether someone experiences mental health difficulties, needs to process trauma, is neurodivergent, or would simply like to journey inwards.
Additionally I specialise in women's work for women who have experienced trauma or women who are experiencing hormonal imbalances that are limiting health, at times these two elements are interconnected.
I work in person, online, in schools and other services.
What is Art Psychotherapy?
Art Psychotherapy is an evidence-based and effective treatment for supporting mental health and wellbeing. No artistic skill or experience is necessary.
Art psychotherapy works with the hidden and often unconscious parts of the self, using image-making as a safe and supportive way to explore thoughts, feelings, and experiences that may be difficult to express verbally. Through the creative process, inner experiences can gradually emerge into the artwork, where they can be reflected upon, understood, and processed within a therapeutic relationship.
This approach helps to explore and recover from past trauma, abuse, and emotional challenges, while also supporting people with difficulties and experiences in the present moment. Art psychotherapy can foster greater self-awareness, emotional resilience, healing, and personal growth.
